SOLUTE Awarded Phase I STTR Grant: Navy Wave Rich Collaboration for Command and Control

June 28, 2010

(San Diego, CA) SOLUTE was awarded a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to design and develop a Navy distributed Maritime Command and Control (C2) collaboration capability ("Navy Wave") that applies the emerging Google Wave protocol standard. SOLUTE's engineering expertise in web-based communications systems is identifying optimal applications of Wave technology to enhance Navy C2 knowledge management and processes.  The SOLUTE team will also be examining if and how a Navy Wave implementation could be extended with Google Wave-compatible robots, gadgets, and embedded APIs. This exciting project could potentially have implications for C2 across the entire DoD and could be a complete paradigm shift in how these products are developed and implemented. Successful implementation of a Navy Wave variant, and C2 extensions for knowledge management, planning, monitoring, and assessment, could yield a technology foundation that can be similarly applied to corporate environments, other Government agencies, or any other organization that manages a distributed workforce.
